Absorbing heavy metal and binding radioactive waste
Studies found that use of high CEC clinoptilolite zeolite in waste management and remediation practices have found that is is highly effective in removing radioactive cations, ammonia, and heavy metal cations, hydrocarbons in industrial environments.
Clinoptilolite Zeolite has been successfully used for many years to safely remove radiation from humans, animals, soil, air and water.
During the nuclear meltdown disaster in Chernobyl , zeolite powder were baked into cookies and fed to children to remove radiation from their bodies. Zeolite was also used in the Three Mile Island radiation release disaster and also Japan have been using Zeolite for removing radiation from the water and soil in Fukushima.
Not all zeolite products are the same. Many of the zeolite products being sold are lower quality and specifically mined for high absorption of cesium, strontium, and other harmful heavy metals. It can absorb elements such as strontium 90, caesium 137 and other radioactive isotopes and other radioactive isotopes from solution and hold them in its 3 dimensional crystal framework.
